Couples
13 artistsEric Firestone Gallery, New YorkMarch 28 – May 2, 2026
Thirteen pairs of artist-partners across generations, shown at 40 Great Jones Street. Lewis is in it with Caitlin Lonegan.
For the show, Cultured asked five of the couples what it is like to mix the professional with the personal. On the best part of being with another artist, Lewis answered: “They understand why you are so crazy. They themselves are crazy.” Lonegan: “The best thing is understanding one another. It’s not an easy life.”
They met in graduate school at UCLA and once shared a studio in Atwater Village, divided with an L shape — Lonegan using it during the day, Lewis at night. “We grew out of that pretty quickly,” she said. They now work fifteen minutes apart and visit each other’s studios three or four times a year.
On jealousy, Lewis: “It’s hard being an artist so it’s natural to feel jealousy, but I honestly want the world for her as much as I want things for myself.” On what he is proudest of: “I remember being really proud when she was in ‘Made in L.A.’”

She’s the only person who listens to me, and I love talking to her about art.
